With the removal of Siskyou Hall (Building 29), the hospital will be re-landscaping the area in front of the refurbished Cascade Hall (J-Building).  The designs, as Deputy Director of the OSH Hospital Replacement Project Jodie Jones mentions in the above video, will correlate with the historical layout of the site and provide a beautiful memorial rose garden for OSH community members.

Hidden Gems Exhibit January 21-March 12, 2011

The Oregon State Hospital Museum is participating in the Hidden Gems: Mid-Willamette Valley Heritage Invitational Exhibit at the Willamette Heritage Center (formerly Mission Mill Museum and the Marion County Historical Society).  The exhibit features selected items from over 14 different heritage and cultural organizations in Marion, Polk and Yamhill counties including: Antique Powerland Museum Association,  Aurora Colony Historical Society, Bush House Museum, Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde, Forest History Center, Frank Lloyd Wright Gordon House, Historic Deepwood Estate, Hoover-Minthorn House, Independence Heritage Museum, Jensen Arctic Museum, Keizer Heritage Museum, Linfield Anthropology Museum, Oregon Northwest Black Pioneers, Settlemier House, Silverton Country Historical Museum, St. Paul Mission Historical Society, Willamette University Archives, and Yamhill County Historical Society, just to name a few.

 The exhibit opens next week, Friday, January 21st and will run through March 12, 2011 at the Willamette Heritage Center in Salem (1313 Mill ST SE, Salem, OR 97301).  Stop by for a chance to see a few of our gems that have been sitting in storage in the Gold Room.  For more information about museum hours and admission fees check out the WHC website here.

Public Tours of the New Oregon State Hospital Scheduled

Come tour part of the new construction at the Oregon State Hospital at a public open house Thursday, November 18, 2010 from 2 pm – 7:30 pm. Tours will be offered of the new admissions, behavior and corrections area, called Harbors. Folks will get to see the new kitchen, courtyards, patient room, gymnasium, treatment mall, and group activity rooms that will open in late November.

Museum board members will be on hand for the event and you can check out information about the history of the hospital and museum plans at the musuem information table.

Save the Date for Pentacle Benefit

See the Pentacle Theatre’s production of the play “One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest” and support the Oregon State Hospital Museum at the same time!   Staff from the Oregon State Hospital, the Hospital Replacement Team, and members of the Museum Board will be on hand to answer questions about the construction, new hospital programming, and the opening of the museum.   Get a sneak peek of museum artifacts and learn more about the history of the hospital.

Tickets are $35, and will be available soon!

Future museum space before construction began


The new museum will be located on the first floor of the old Kirkbride-U building.  Here are some “before pictures” of what the space looked like before construction began on the building.  Check out the Oregon State Hospital Replacement Project website to access all the latest news about the construction and watch the progress on the Hoffman Construction webcam.  The construction project will not be complete until the end of 2011.
